Porsche has increased the capacity for the high-voltage battery in Cayenne plug-in hybrids
The gross capacity of the high-voltage battery is now 17.9 kWh rather than 14.1 kWh, which is an increase in the electric range of up to 30 per cent. Measured in line with the WLTP EAER City cycle, the Cayenne E-Hybrid can now cover up to 48 kilometres with zero local emissions (NEDC: up to 56 km; Cayenne E-Hybrid: Fuel consumption combined 2.5 – 2.4 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 58 – 56 g/km; Electricity consumption combined 22.0 – 21.6 kWh/100 km; Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupé: Fuel consumption combined 2.6 – 2.5 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 60 – 58 g/km; Electricity consumption combined 22.4 – 22.0 kWh/100 km (all as of 10/2020)), while the Turbo S E-Hybrid covers up to 42 km (NEDC: up to 53 km; Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid: Fuel consumption combined 3.3 –3.2 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 75 – 72 g/km; Electricity consumption combined 23.3 – 22.8 kWh/100 km; Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupé: Fuel consumption combined 3.3–3.2 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 76 – 73 g/km; Electricity consumption combined 23.5 – 23.0 kWh/100 km (all as of 10/2020)). All Cayenne E-Hybrid models therefore meet the current range criterion that entitles owners to an “E” number plate and reduced company car tax in Germany.
The purely electric powertrain in all plug-in hybrid Cayenne models, including the even sportier coupé version, comprises an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission. This powertrain delivers an output of 100 kW (136 PS) and 400 Nm, generating a purely electric top speed of 135 km/h. Any increased power demand from the driver or switching to the Sport or Sport Plus driving modes activates the internal combustion engine in each model. In the Cayenne E-Hybrid, this is a three-litre V6 turbo with an output of 250 kW (340 PS), which contributes to a system performance of 340 kW (462 PS). The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid models feature a 404 kW (550 PS), four-litre V8 bi-turbo engine, meaning that the hybrid system as a whole has a power output of 500 kW (680 PS).
Optimised driving modes for greater efficiency
The driving modes of the standard Sport Chrono Package have been optimised to further improve efficiency and performance. E-Charge mode, in which the internal combustion engine charges the battery via load point shifting during a journey, now links to an adjusted charging strategy: the target state of charge of the battery has been reduced from 100 to 80 per cent. Much like a smartphone battery, the battery charges much more slowly and inefficiently when the battery’s state of charge reaches approximately 80 per cent or more.
This strategy also provides a way of ensuring that full recuperation power is available at all times. E-Charge mode is therefore even more efficient than it was before. In the performance-oriented Sport and Sport Plus modes, the battery is always charged to a minimum level to provide sufficient boost options for a sporty driving style, and it is now charged even more effectively at a higher, consistent charging power – at an average of 12 kW on the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid in Sport Plus mode, for example.
Intelligent charging with the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect
Most drivers charge their vehicles at home so a conventional domestic or industrial electrical socket is sufficient for charging all Porsche plug-in hybrid models. Depend-ing on the vehicle model, a charging power of up to 7.2 kW can be achieved with the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect. Using a Mode 3 charging cable, it is also possible to charge at public charging points. The Mobile Charger Connect offers several intelli-gent charging functions: A timer ensures that the vehicle is ready by the specific time that the driver plans to set off. In addition to a pre-defined charging target, specific air conditioning options can be selected. All functions can be controlled via the Porsche Connect App as required.
The range of functionality is extended even further in conjunction with the optional Home Energy Manager: This systems looks at the total energy consumption of the driver’s home to determine the maximum charging power that can be generated without overloading the domestic connection.
The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid and the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupé draw their system output of 500 kW (680 PS; Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid: Fuel consumption combined 3.9–3.7 l/100 km, electricity consumption 19.6–18.7 kWh/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 90–85 g/km; Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupé: Fuel consumption combined 3.9–3.7 l/100 km, electricity consumption 19.6–18.7 kWh/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 90–85 g/km) from the intelligent interaction of a four-litre V8 engine (404 kW/550 PS) and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission (100 kW/136 PS). The maximum system torque of 900 Nm is available from just above idle. Both models accelerate from a standing start to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 295 km/h. This exceptional performance is matched by a high level of efficiency: the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid and Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupé can drive for up to 40 kilometres with zero local emissions. The average NEDC consumption is 3.9–3.7 l/100 km (fuel) and 19.6–18.7 kWh/100 km (electric).
In addition to the two top models, the hybrid range from Porsche now includes the new Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupé with system power of 340 kW (462 PS; Fuel consumption combined 3.2–3.1 l/100 km, electricity consumption 18.7–17.7 kWh/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 75–72 g/km), torque of 700 Nm, and electric range of up to 43 kilometres. The Cayenne E-Hybrid, which now features a gasoline particulate filter, is available to order again.
Speeds of up to 135 km/h with just electric power
Like all Porsche plug-in hybrids, the new top-of-the-range model in the Cayenne family is also one of the sportiest vehicles in the premium segment – not in spite of its hybrid powertrain but because of it. In the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid models, the electric motor is located between the V8 engine and the eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission. The two motors are interconnected via a separating clutch inside the hybrid module, referred to as the Electric Clutch Actuator (ECA). In E-Power driving mode, the electric motor can, on its own, propel the vehicle up to a maximum speed of 135 km/h. It can also be used in the other modes for an additional power boost. These modes can be selected via the standard Sport Chrono Package (Hybrid Auto, Sport and Sport Plus). Porsche has taken this boost strategy from the 918 Spyder super sports car.
The lithium-ion battery is installed underneath the loadspace floor and has a capacity of 14.1 kWh. The high-voltage battery can be fully charged within 2.4 hours with the standard 7.2 kW onboard AC charger when using a 400-volt connection with a 16-amp fuse. The charging process takes six hours from a conventional domestic socket with a rating of 230 volts and 10 amps. Charging can also be scheduled via Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or the Porsche Connect app (for smartphones and Apple® Watch).
Roll stabilisation system, air suspension, and ceramic brakes as standard
The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid and the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupé come with extensive factory-fitted equipment as standard: features include the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) electric roll stabilisation system, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) rear-axle differential lock, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) high-performance brake system, 21-inch lightweight alloy wheels in Aero design including wheel arch extensions in body colour, Power Steering Plus, and the Sport Chrono Package. The adaptive three-chamber air suspension, including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), ensures a broad spectrum of typical Porsche driving dynamics and a comfortable ride. Up to 22-inch lightweight alloy wheels and rear-axle steering are also available as optional extras.
Full connectivity and auxiliary air conditioning as standard
All Cayenne models include full connectivity as standard. This enables online navigation with real-time traffic information, smart online voice control, and extensive Porsche Connect services – including searching for public charging stations. Additional options for all Cayenne derivatives when the new model year starts include wireless Apple CarPlay®, new USB-C ports and a smartphone storage tray with inductive charging function. All hybrid models from Porsche have auxiliary air conditioning as standard. This can be remote-controlled directly via the PCM and via the Porsche Connect app, and enables the vehicle to be heated and cooled even when the ignition is not switched on.
All Cayenne models feature LED headlights, a cruise control system with speed limiter function, camera-based pedestrian protection and Park Assist at the front and rear – including a rear-view camera system in the Cayenne Coupé. Optional extras include LED matrix beam headlights, a head-up display, Night Vision with thermal imaging camera, and the Porsche InnoDrive digital co-pilot including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, road sign recognition, active lane guidance, junction assistant and emergency braking.
A double debut: Cayenne Coupé as a V6 and V8 hybrid
With the Cayenne Coupé, Porsche has added an even sportier variant to its successful SUV line-up. Highlights of the coupé include sharper lines with a unique roof and rear section, an adaptive rear spoiler, a rear seat bench with the characteristics of two individual seats, and two different roof designs: a panoramic fixed glass roof as standard and an optional carbon roof. Like the SUV, the SUV coupé is now available in two different hybrid versions: in combination with the 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine and with a 3.0-litre V6 turbo engine. The new Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupé has a system output of 340 kW (462 PS) and a system torque of 700 Nm. In conjunction with the standard Sport Chrono Package, it sprints from a standing start to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds
(5.0 seconds with the lightweight sports packages) and has a top speed of 253 km/h. The average consumption according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) is 3.2–3.1 l/100 km (fuel) and 18.7 – 17.7 kWh/100 km (electric). The purely electric range is up to 43 kilometres.
All four different hybrid versions of the Cayenne are now available to order.
With the world premiere of the Cayenne Coupé, Porsche is extending the third generation of its successful SUV range. An interview with Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG.
Entry into a new vehicle segment: with the world premiere of the Cayenne Coupé, Porsche is extending the third generation of its successful SUV range. The vehicle impresses with its particularly dynamic contours and new technical details, which give it a very athletic appearance.
The highlights of the new Cayenne model include sharper contours with a totally unique rear end, an adaptive rear spoiler, a rear bench with the characteristics of two individual seats, and two roof concepts: a panoramic, fixed glass roof fitted as standard, and an optional carbon roof. The significantly steeper roof line falling to the rear makes this vehicle appear even more dynamic and visually positions it as the sportiest-looking model in the segment. The Cayenne Coupé will be available with two different engine variants at its market launch: a six-cylinder, turbocharged engine with 250 kW (340 PS; Combined fuel consumption 9.4 – 9.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 215 – 212 g/km), making a standard sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds possible as well as a four-litre V8 engine with twin turbocharging in the top-of-the-range Cayenne Turbo Coupé model, 404 kW (550 PS; Combined fuel consumption 11.4 – 11.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 261 – 258 g/km) and accelerating from a standing start to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
The Cayenne – a worldwide story of success
Since the introduction of the first Cayenne in 2002, this model has been very popular with customers around the globe. More than 864,200 vehicles have been delivered to date, which amounts to 50,000 cars per year on average. With around 71,500 vehicles delivered worldwide in 2018, the model was only beaten to the top spot by the Macan. The majority of vehicles were delivered to customers in China and Europe.

Which regions and buyer groups is the Cayenne Coupé targeting?
The Cayenne Coupé is a world conqueror. It is equally attractive to all regions. It appeals to customers who are particularly interested in the sporty genes of the Cayenne. These may be existing or new Porsche customers – with great loyalty to the brand and an expressive lifestyle. The SUV Coupé market isn’t new, but we are giving the car a character that is all its own through our typical Porsche design DNA. Of course, the sporty body shape is a particularly good match for the Porsche brand.
Seen worldwide, who are Porsche’s customers?
Our customers have a very individual and differentiated lifestyle. There is no standard Porsche customer. For this reason, it is one of our maxims to consider each customer individually. At the same time, there are properties that all our customers share. These include their striving towards performance, personal development and the extraordinary, as well as the success they have with this attitude – a certain drive to get ahead. Many also value the feeling of having found a family of like-minded people at Porsche and experiencing well-deserved pleasure. In many cases, our customers have driven models from other premium brands because they expect more from their vehicle. Anyone who then experiences the driving pleasure in an entry-level Porsche model will see that there is a much sportier way and realise that they want to evolve – to a Turbo or GT model. In this process, personal progress is much more important than external image.
How significant are surveys and market studies for model decisions at Porsche?
Customer feedback of course influences our product decisions and our customers are very committed. We receive more than 300,000 feedback reports, suggestions and requests each year. It goes without saying that we integrate all this into the development process of a new vehicle. We also repeatedly showcase our product ideas to customers and potential customers. The current Cayenne is a good example: during development we took into account a large amount of feedback on its predecessor. In particular, the interior takes into account the wishes of Porsche enthusiasts. The Taycan will be yet another example of how we integrate customer feedback into product development at an early stage. We asked our customers at the start of the development process whether they could envisage a purely electrically driven vehicle made by Porsche and what it should look like. Even now, shortly before the world premiere in autumn, we once again asked them for feedback on the final product.
The Cayenne Coupé demonstrates that the Porsche model range is becoming increasingly more versatile. Is this a trend towards diversification?
Our holistic concept does not focus on the vehicle, but rather on the brand DNA. This combination of sportiness and the demand for top quality is evident in all Porsche models and perfectly reflects our customers’ interests. All of our vehicles are sports cars, even the Panamera, Macan and Cayenne. They are the sportiest option in their respective segments – and they carry the genes of the Porsche 911. That’s why Porsche is clearly perceived as a sports car brand. And we are working hard to make sure nothing about that changes. At the same time, we are continuously expanding our product range so we can offer our customers all over the world what they want. For example, the model mix has shifted as a result of customer preferences in growth markets. Demand for sporty SUVs is very strong particularly in China, but two-door sports car sales are also on the rise.
Coupés are obviously a trend in the SUV segment. How do you create a passion in customers for Porsche as a brand?
Porsche stands for craftsmanship and meeting individual customer wishes with fascinating premium sports cars. And people are always at the heart of it all. A Porsche is always made by people: a great deal of craftsmanship, love and passion goes into every Porsche. At Porsche, we are also united by the drive to always to fight for the best solution. That is how we create individual products that inspire through outstanding quality and driving pleasure. We want to appeal more strongly to new, younger target groups with the Cayenne Coupé. These groups value exclusivity and an expressive lifestyle, and have a very performance-oriented mentality.
Customers score sales experience with Porsche higher than any other brand
Atlanta, Georgia. New car customers rated Porsche as the top brand in J.D. Power’s annual Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) Study released today.
Porsche improved its overall ranking by three spots in 2018 compared to last year’s SSI Study. With an increase of 10 points to a total of 828, Porsche ranked higher than any other brand.
“This achievement is the result of a customer-focused strategy that has been superbly executed by our 190 U.S. dealer partners,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Atlanta-based Porsche Cars North America, Inc. “First and foremost, this award is for our dedicated dealers, who have invested significant time in training for their employees and committed $500 million to improving facilities in just the last five years.”
The SSI Study provides an analysis of the purchase experience from a customer perspective. It is based on responses from 25,748 people who purchased or leased new vehicles this year.
Particular high points for customers who bought or leased a Porsche between April and May 2018 included the delivery process, dealership facilities, and working out the details of the transaction. Porsche shoppers also expressed satisfaction with salespeople and inventory.
Zellmer noted that in the first 10 months of this year, Porsche sales in the U.S. were up 3.2 percent compared to the same period in 2017. “We are glad to see growth going hand-in-hand with continually improving the customer experience,” he said.
Newest Porsche brings ‘E-performance’ option to Cayenne line-up
Atlanta, Georgia. The 2019 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid solidifies its place in the lineup while making significant advancements over both the standard Cayenne and the preceding Cayenne S E-Hybrid it replaces. Those advantages include more power, quicker acceleration, a faster top speed, and increased electric-only range. The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid uses the same three-liter mono-turbo V6 as the Cayenne, but significantly increases total horsepower and torque by integrating an electric motor.
The latest Porsche “E-performance” model adopts the same hybrid boost strategy as the 918 Spyder super sports car. By leveraging the instantaneous torque of the electric motor and the power of a turbocharged V6 gasoline engine, the Cayenne E-Hybrid has an especially broad power band that improves its acceleration capability. In addition to enhanced performance, the new 2019 Cayenne E-Hybrid also adds the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and Auxiliary Cabin Conditioning to its list of standard equipment.
In conjunction with the launch of the 2019 Cayenne E-Hybrid, Porsche will also introduce several new features to the broader Cayenne model line. They include massaging seats, a heated windshield, a head-up display, and for the first time in any Porsche, 22-inch wheels.
Aesthetic changes specific to the Cayenne E-Hybrid are aligned with other current Porsche plug-in hybrid models. The visual distinctions are Acid Green brake calipers and matching outlines around all of the badges.
Newest Porsche PHEV Powertrain
The latest Porsche plug-in hybrid includes the third new hybrid powertrain from Porsche since 2017. It combines a three-liter mono-turbo V6 engine with 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque with an electric motor that creates 134 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The result is a total system output of 455 horsepower from 5,250 to 6,400 RPM and 516 lb-ft of torque from 1,000 to 3,750 RPM. Acceleration from zero to 60 MPH happens in 4.7 seconds (-0.7 seconds vs. Cayenne S E-Hybrid) on to a ¼ mile time of 13.3 seconds (-0.9 seconds vs. Cayenne S E-Hybrid) and a top track speed of 157 MPH (+6 MPH vs. Cayenne S E-Hybrid).
Tiptronic S transmission and new hybrid module
Porsche completely re-engineered the hybrid powertrain componentry at work in the Cayenne E-Hybrid as compared to the Cayenne S E-Hybrid of the previous generation. The hybrid module, which is positioned between the engine and eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission, consists of an electric motor and a separating clutch. In contrast to the previous electro-hydraulic system with a spindle actuator, the separating clutch is operated electromechanically for quicker reaction times. The new Tiptronic S transmission, which was developed for the third-generation Cayenne range, offers significantly faster, smoother, and more comfortable shifts. This also leads to a reduced interruption of tractive force while changing gears. As with other Cayenne models, the top track speed is reached in sixth gear, leaving the remaining two gears intentionally long for efficient cruising.
Standard Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive
With standard Porsche Traction Management (PTM), the Cayenne E-Hybrid has an active hang-on all-wheel drive system with an electronically regulated, map-controlled multiplate clutch. With its broad range of torque distribution, the system offers clear benefits in terms of driving dynamics, agility, traction control and off-road capabilities. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is included as standard equipment, though customers may upgrade to the same three-chamber air suspension system that is offered in the rest of the Cayenne lineup.
Drive Modes in Detail
As with other Porsche E-performance models, the Cayenne E-Hybrid shares a boost strategy with the 918 Spyder. By offering a wide range of drive modes, the powertrain is able to meet a wide range of specific needs ranging from all-electric motoring to high performance driving.
The Sport Chrono Package, including a mode switch integrated into the steering wheel, forms part of the standard equipment on the Cayenne E-Hybrid. The mode switch and the Porsche Communication Management system are used to select the various driving modes. These include the familiar “Sport” and “Sport Plus” modes from the other Cayenne models equipped with the Sport Chrono Package, while the Cayenne E-Hybrid also adds four hybrid-specific modes: “E-Power”, “Hybrid Auto”, “E-Hold” and “E-Charge”.
E-Power: In “E-Power” mode, the Cayenne E-Hybrid drives up to 44 kilometers, based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), on electricity alone.
Hybrid Auto: The “Hybrid Auto” mode is a completely new development. When this mode is selected, the Cayenne changes and combines the drive sources automatically for ultimate efficiency.
E-Hold: The “E-Hold” mode allows drivers to conserve the current state of charge so they can later switch to electric (and therefore zero-emissions) mode in an environmental zone at their destination, for example.
E-Charge: In “E-Charge” mode, the gasoline engine generates more power than is needed to move the car. The excess energy is channeled into the battery for later use.
Sport and Sport Plus: The highest level of drive performance is made available in the “Sport” and “Sport Plus” modes. The V6 is active continuously in these modes. In “Sport” mode, the battery charge is always maintained at a minimum level to ensure that sufficient boost reserve capacity is available when needed. “Sport Plus” mode is all about maximum performance. In addition, the battery is charged as quickly as possible to ensure maximum performance.
Battery power: plugging in and taking off
Power is stored in a 14.1 kWh battery pack housed in the rear of the chassis beneath the load floor. While running on electricity alone, the Cayenne E-Hybrid can travel up to 83 miles per hour and up to 44 kilometers (NEDC). EPA fuel economy figures and electric range are unannounced at this time.
Battery capacity of the Cayenne E-Hybrid increases by roughly 30 percent to 14.1 kWh when compared to the preceding model. The liquid-cooled battery consists of eight modules with 13 prismatic lithium ion cells each. The packaging size of this battery pack is the same as the battery used in the previous Cayenne S E-Hybrid, but it has improved energy density.
Using a 230-volt, 32 amp connection and the optional 7.2 kW onboard charger, it is possible to recharge a fully depleted battery in 2.3 hours. Using a 230-volt connection with 10 amps and the standard 3.6 kW on-board charger, replenishing a fully depleted battery requires 7.8 hours. In both cases, the recharging process is quicker with the new Cayenne E-Hybrid than in prior models.
The charging process is controllable either via Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or remotely when using the Porsche Connect app. With an enabled smartphone, owners gain remote access to climate controls, and charge monitoring. All of these features are included as standard equipment and function even when the ignition switch is turned off. Porsche Connect can also be used to find and filter charging stations and set them as a navigation destination.
Mirroring the subtle aesthetic hybrid indicators on the exterior, the cabin features Acid Green needles on the Sport Chrono dial and the tachometer as well as hybrid-specific displays in the gauge cluster and within the PCM screen. The displays offer information about the state of charge, electricity consumption and hybrid-specific drive mode selections.
Porsche is offering a head-up display for the first time. The full-color projection is customizable, height-adjustable, and it puts key information including driving speed, engine speed, driving mode, and navigation information and the current drive mode within the driver’s direct line of sight.
Models equipped with the Sport Chrono package – such as the Cayenne E-Hybrid – can see information relevant to the added performance capability including lap times and cornering g forces. Models equipped with the Off Road package are able to display similarly relevant information including hillside gradients, steer angle, a compass, and hill descent control speeds.
Starting with the 2019 Cayenne E-Hybrid, Porsche InnoDrive will also be available. As a step beyond adaptive cruise control, this system combines already existent traffic sensing systems with onboard map data. The result is a vehicle that can “look” 1.8 miles ahead to select gearing intelligently, and that can compute when best to coast and the best balance between the gasoline and electric portions of the powertrain based on upcoming corners and changes in grade. The system is also capable of recognizing speed limits and adjusting vehicle velocity in cases where temporary speed restrictions are in place.
Market launch and pricing
The new Cayenne E-Hybrid is expected to begin arriving at U.S. dealers in early 2019 with a base MSRP of $79,900 excluding options and the $1,050 delivery, processing and handling fee.

"Tech Live Look" uses the AiR Enterprise™ software platform from Atheer, Inc., a leading provider of AR solutions, in conjunction with lightweight smart glasses. These high-tech spectacles feature the latest in projection technology and come equipped with a high-resolution, auto focus camera that shows even fine details such as threading on screws. The glasses include a powerful LED to illuminate dark spaces in the engine compartment or under the car.
How does this technology work? When a service technician at a dealership in Los Angeles dons this specialized eyewear and connects through the software with the Atlanta-based Porsche technical support team 2,200 miles away, it allows the support team to see exactly what he is seeing, in real time. This "see what I see" video-conferencing capability with instant access to remote experts allows both parties to quickly identify and resolve technical issues. It can also help decrease service resolution time by up to 40 percent, based on the findings of a pilot program undertaken in July 2017 at eight Porsche dealerships in California, Florida, Indiana, New Jersey, and Washington, along with one in Canada.
"Tech Live Look" can do much more than just provide real-time video capability. It allows the technical support team to take screen shots or send technical bulletins and instructions onto the projection surface of the glasses while the service technician is working on the vehicle. This type of information exchange is far more efficient than sending emails and photos or explaining complex technical issues over the phone.

New top model in the Cayenne line with 550 hp, active aerodynamics and high performance brakes
Atlanta, Georgia. The 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo took its place at the top of the model line at the 67th Frankfurt International Motor Show. The new model from the third-generation Cayenne range is once again raising the bar for sporty performance in the segment. Its twin-turbo four-liter V8 engine delivers 550 hp. The combination of innovations including a three-chamber air suspension, staggered tire sizes and new high-performance Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) technology result in improved driving dynamics. With additional options, such as rear-axle steering and electric roll stabilization with a 48-volt system, the SUV achieves the driving characteristics of a sports car. The new Cayenne Turbo accelerates from zero to 60 mph in as little as 3.7 seconds when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package toward a top track speed of 177 mph, representing gains over the previous-generation Cayenne Turbo S.
With an exclusive front end and the LED main headlights of the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), the Cayenne Turbo has a dominant appearance. At night, the new Turbo sets itself apart from other Cayenne models with its double-row front light modules. Widened wheel arches with painted trim and special 21-inch wheels reserved for the Cayenne Turbo characterize the side view. Turbo-specific twin tailpipes distinguish this model from its six-cylinder siblings.
Interior design elements including the center-mounted grab handles continue in the third-generation Cayenne Turbo. Like other members of the new Cayenne family the newest model features the Porsche Advanced Cockpit, which includes a high-definition 12.3-inch screen in the dashboard and an analog tachometer flanked by two seven-inch full-HD screens. Virtually all of the vehicle functions can be displayed and operated using the high-resolution display and touchscreen of the Porsche Advanced Cockpit. Among them, for example, is the standard 710-watt BOSE® Surround Sound System. Other equipment newly included by default in the latest Cayenne Turbo includes 18-way sport seats, seatbacks with integrated headrests, and standard heating functions for all outboard seats as well as the steering wheel.
Greater power, greater torque: twin-turbo V8 with 550 hp
At the heart of the Cayenne Turbo is the twin-turbo four-liter V8 with 550 hp and 567 lb-ft of peak torque (increases of 30 hp and 14 lb-ft versus the previous Cayenne Turbo). Standard Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive works with the new eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission to improve acceleration, speed, and highway cruising comfort. The new Cayenne Turbo exceeds the previous Cayenne Turbo S in many areas. For example, it sprints to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds (or 3.7 seconds when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package, 0.1 second quicker than the previous Cayenne Turbo S) and boasts a higher top track speed of 177 mph. The turbochargers are arranged inside the cylinder V, in a "central turbo layout." The shortened exhaust paths between the combustion chambers and the turbochargers improve engine responsiveness and power delivery. This setup also creates a more compact package that is advantageous because it allows for a lower engine installation that helps to lower the center of gravity for improved handling characteristics.
Active chassis with three-chamber air suspension and staggered tires
The new lightweight chassis of the Cayenne Turbo helps improve driving dynamics versus its predecessor. In particular, the combination of a new three-chamber air suspension with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) active shock-absorbers extends the range considerably. By using three air chambers per spring strut, the chassis is able to map a wider range of spring rates than the previous system could, allowing for improvements in both comfort- and performance-focused settings.
With six selectable height levels, the ground clearance can be manually adjusted to suit the off-road terrain. These are also actively controlled via five new driving programs for on- and off-road use. The default setting is the on-road program. Four other modes activate the conditioning for mild off-road terrain: Mud, Gravel, Sand, or Rocks. The drive mode, chassis settings, and differential locks can be selected to adapt to the relevant setting.
Complemented by optional rear-axle steering, electric Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) roll stabilization connected to a 48-volt vehicle electrical system and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+), the new Cayenne Turbo achieves impressive driving dynamics. Sports car performance is an even greater emphasis in the new Cayenne than past models. Accordingly, the front and rear wheel sizes are staggered to measure 285/40 at the front and 315/35 at the rear. This produces even greater longitudinal and lateral power application for agile handing.
New Cayenne Turbo gets active aero and Porsche Surface Coated Brakes
The new Cayenne Turbo integrates an adaptive roof spoiler as a component of its active aerodynamics. Depending on the position, this optimizes efficiency, increases downforce on the rear axle, or shortens braking distances from higher speeds in the airbrake position. At full braking from 155 mph, the Cayenne Turbo comes to a stop up to 79 inches earlier as a result. The aerodynamic system therefore complements the effect of the new high-performance Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) which is included as standard with the Cayenne Turbo. The tungsten carbide layer applied to the cast-iron discs increases braking performance and wear resistance while reducing the amount of brake dust at the same time, meaning less dirt on the rims. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system (PCCB) is still available as the top-performing option.
The new 2019 Cayenne Turbo will be available for ordering in the U.S. market in December, 2017 with arrival at dealers in Fall 2018. MSRP is $124,600 excluding $1,050 for delivery, and processing.

New engines, new chassis, innovative control concept, and increased connectivity
Atlanta, Georgia. Today Porsche unveiled the new 2019 Cayenne. The all-new Cayenne builds on the formula that started in 2003 while pushing performance boundaries even further through new technologies that significantly improve on-road performance and comfort. The new Cayenne is more athletic both in appearance and driving performance due to new styling cues and engineering developments. In line with its modern exterior, the interior carries many of the same design cues and new technologies that made their debut on the 2017 Porsche Panamera.
Among the many changes, optional rear-axle steering creates a virtual reduction of the wheelbase at low speeds and a virtual lengthening at high speeds for improved agility and stability. Available Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) offer even greater stopping power and reduced brake wear. Every new generation Cayenne model will come with a turbocharged powertrain and all-wheel drive that complement the new lighter weight platform.
Performance: New Powertrains and Standard Equipment
Porsche will offer two models at launch: the Cayenne and Cayenne S. Both are powered by turbocharged six-cylinder engines. The Cayenne uses a 3.0-liter single-turbo V6 making 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds (or 5.6 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package). The new Cayenne is also capable of running the quarter-mile in 14.4 seconds or 14.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono package, and it is able to reach a top track speed of 152 mph. The Cayenne S uses a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 440 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. It is able to accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill in 4.9 seconds (or 4.6 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package) and continue on toward a top track speed of 164 mph. The Cayenne S quarter mile times drop to 13.3 seconds (or 13.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono package).
A newly-developed eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission is standard across the Cayenne line. It offers improved comfort and quicker response times in its lower gear range for improved performance both on- and off-road. Meanwhile, an intentionally long eighth gear allows for relaxed cruising. The long gear is designed to complement the performance-minded lower ratios with the option for comfortable highway cruising. Driver-selectable transmission programming further enhances how the Cayenne handles on varied terrain. The default setting is the on-road program. Four other modes activate the conditioning for mild off-road terrain: Mud, Gravel, Sand, or Rocks. The drive mode, chassis settings, and differential locks can be selected to adapt to the relevant scenario. Fully variable Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive is standard on all Cayenne models. The system offers excellent performance characteristics while also providing extensive traction on rough ground.
Chassis: Fundamental Improvements Start With Structure
The third-generation Cayenne has a newly-developed lighter weight chassis that contributes to an overall weight savings of up to 143 lbs versus the previous generation, even with extensively increased standard equipment. Following the Porsche 911 and Panamera models, the new body of the Cayenne also uses an intelligent combination of alloy and steel. The exterior is made almost entirely of aluminum as are the floorpan assembly, front section, and virtually all the chassis components. One particular technical highlight is the innovative lithium-ion polymer starter battery, which alone accounts for a weight saving of 22 lbs.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Cayenne incorporates major technological and mechanical developments which greatly enhance performance. This starts with the chassis and progresses to a separated link design for the front axle, a multilink rear axle, and - for the first time with the Cayenne - staggered front and rear tire sizes ranging in diameter from 19 to 21 inches that help to improve on-road driving dynamics. The choice to use a staggered tire setup in this generation underscores the fact that the Porsche Cayenne is designed to be the sports car within its segment.
Enhancing both agility at lower speeds and handling at high speeds, rear-axle steering is available as an option. This technology reduces the turning radius at low speeds for easier maneuverability by turning the rear wheels out of phase with the front axle. At higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in phase with the front axle to provide a virtual lengthening of the wheelbase to improve roadholding and directional control.
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) offers familiar variable damping settings found in other Porsche cars. It will be standard equipment on the Cayenne S and an option on the Cayenne. In addition to PASM, a new three-chamber air suspension is also optionally available which furthers the range of comfort- and performance-oriented settings. The new system increases air volume versus the previous system and offers a finer degree of specific calibration through the addition of a third air chamber. Finally, available Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) adds stabilizer bars that are now controlled via a 48-volt electrical system for greatly improved responsiveness versus hydraulic management.
When equipped, all of those systems generate data that are analyzed centrally, in real time, by Porsche 4D Chassis Control. This technology debuted with the second-generation Panamera. The system works to make virtually instantaneous adjustments, optimizing handling even further. With the exception of the active PASM damper system, all other chassis systems are new developments.
Dynamic design language: wider appearance and larger wheels
The new Cayenne retains a strong visual connection to its predecessors. At the same time, it adopts new design elements that hint at how this generation builds upon its predecessors. New horizontal light edges create a wider, more athletic appearance as do enlarged air intakes in the front fascia. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 114 inches, while overall length increases slightly to 194 inches and width (with side mirrors folded) is 78 inches. Cargo area volume with the rear seats raised increases by almost 15 percent over the previous generation to 27.19 cubic feet. When closed, the rear fascia features a new three-dimensional LED light design that features the Porsche logo spanning the width of the vehicle through a narrow strip of lights.
Broadly speaking, LEDs are a main feature of the new Cayenne and are standard on all models. Customers may also choose to upgrade from the standard headlights to either the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PLDS) or LED Matrix Beam headlights, which also include PDLS.
World premiere: Porsche Surface Coated Brake with tungsten-carbide layer
Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) technology is the latest example of Porsche assuming a pioneering role in developing high performance brakes. This world-first is available as an option for all Cayenne models and consists of a cast-iron disc with a tungsten-carbide coating. The finish increases friction values while reducing wear and brake dust. The brakes - which are exclusive to Porsche - will take on a visually impressive glossy appearance complemented by white painted calipers. The PSCB system is only available in combination with 20-inch and 21-inch wheels. The Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB) remain the top system available.
New Sport Chrono Package with PSM Sport
The new Cayenne utilizes the redeveloped Sport Chrono Package which reflects the design first employed in the 918 Spyder. The Mode button on the steering wheel is one clear indicator of this approach. As well as the Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus driving modes, the driver can select an individually configurable mode. Pressing the Sport Response button in the center activates the most performance-oriented engine and transmission mapping for 20 seconds. The Sport Chrono Package also includes a separate PSM Sport mode, in which the driver can utilize a wider range of the new Cayenne's driving dynamics.
Digital evolution: Porsche Advanced Cockpit and new PCM
The newest version of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) makes its way into the new Cayenne, ushering into the model line a new level of connectivity. At the heart of the new display and control concept from Porsche is the 12.3-inch full-HD touchscreen, launched last year with the new Panamera.
A range of digital functions can be operated intuitively through touch and also voice controls. The standard Porsche Connect Plus allows subscribers to have access to services including online navigation with real-time traffic information. The analog controls on the new center console are focused on the main functions of the vehicle. Other buttons are integrated into the smartphone-like, glass-look touch surface, which gives acoustic and haptic feedback when operated. In typical Porsche style, the driver has a central analog tachometer to view. This is flanked by two 7-inch full-HD displays showing relevant driving data that can be selected and changed using the multi-function steering wheel. Cayenne customers may specify a variety of available assistance systems as well that include Night Vision Assist, which uses a thermal imaging camera to detect pedestrians and animals before they are visible to the naked eye. Lane Change Assist, Lane Keep Assist including traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, ParkAssist including Surround View, and Porsche InnoDrive including adaptive cruise control are also available.
PCM also offers the ability for a great degree of customization by saving preferred settings and menu layouts including up to six individual profiles. In addition to a large number of interior settings, a profile is used to store specifications for lights, driving programs, and assistance systems. Depending on the equipment, each driver can also apply his or her own settings to the new sound systems from Bose® and Burmester®.
A new Off-road Precision App, specially developed for the Porsche Cayenne, is now also available as part of Connect Plus. It allows rough-terrain drives to be documented in detail, helping the driver to improve her or his own skills using video recordings.
Pricing and U.S. market availability
The 2019 Cayenne and Cayenne S models are available to order with a base MSRP of $65,700 and $82,900 respectively, excluding the $1,050 delivery, processing and handling fees. They will reach U.S. dealers midway through 2018.
